Hi there! I’m Averi Gernatt, and I’m so excited to welcome you to my blog. Here, you’ll find funny stories, personal lessons, and maybe a few tips learned the hard way. Let’s start with a tale that’s both cringe-worthy and quintessentially me.

Let’s rewind to when I was a fresh-faced 16-year-old who had just earned my driver’s license. Drunk on freedom (and maybe a little naïve), I was ready to conquer the world—or at least my neighborhood—in my trusty Hyundai Santa Fe. If you’ve ever played Mario Kart, imagine me as Toad on Rainbow Road: fast, fearless, and slightly reckless.

One evening after soccer practice, I noticed my gas gauge dipping dangerously low. Feeling confident in my newfound independence, I pulled into a Chevron station to juice up.

Now, here’s the thing: no one had ever taught me how to pump gas. Driver’s ed had covered road signs and merging techniques, but no one mentioned why gas pumps had options. I stared at the kiosk, weighing my choices: 87, 89, 90… and the mysterious green pump.

At first, I thought about texting my dad for advice, but then my 16-year-old brain decided, Nah, I’ve got this. I’m a grown-up now. So, I confidently chose the most expensive option—because obviously, expensive means better.

I filled my tank with fuel, proud of my adulting skills, and drove home blasting “Doses and Mimosas.” But my triumph was short-lived. Moments later, I heard a loud POP. At first, I shrugged it off, but then came another BANG. My music went silent, and my car began jerking like it was dancing in the 1980s.

By the time I pulled into my driveway, my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, and my Santa Fe sounded like it was struggling aggressively. With my pride shattered, I had to confess to my parents that I’d filled the tank with the forbidden diesel. My poor car had to be towed and get its stomach pumped at the repair shop.

Moral of the story?

  • Ask for help when you need it.

  • Learn to laugh at yourself.

  • Always have an emergency fund (trust me).

This experience taught me that life is full of curveballs and comedy. I can’t wait to share more stories, lessons, and laughs with you on this blog. Thanks for stopping by—I’m so glad you’re here!

XOXO,

Aves
