The Power of Choices

"Life is held together by choices, one after the other, all shapes and sizes. Right or wrong doesn't matter, because life just keeps unfolding; it won't wait around for you. If you sit still, it could pass you by altogether. I guess I'd like to believe all those choices are made for us the instant we enter into this world, because if that's true, then we're exactly where we're supposed to be. Forever."

These words, from the movie The Choice, resonated deeply with me. They reminded me of how intricate and interconnected our lives are through the choices we make. Life is a continuous stream of decisions, big and small, and each one carries a ripple effect, altering the course of our journey. From choosing what to eat for breakfast to deciding on life partners, every choice holds significance.

But here’s the thing—whether we realize it or not, we are constantly navigating through these choices. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or even lost by them at times. After all, the weight of our decisions can feel heavy. There are moments when we wonder: Did I make the right choice? What if I had done things differently? These questions are natural, but they can also cloud our judgment. In reality, life keeps unfolding regardless of whether we feel we’ve made the “right” choice.

I believe that the choices we make shape the trajectory of our lives, leading us toward the experiences, relationships, and opportunities we’re meant to have.

I also believe in something greater—that God is guiding us, His plan is unfolding, even when it feels like we're just reacting to the world around us. It’s as though there is an underlying thread that connects the dots of our choices, drawing us closer to the person we are meant to become.

One of the biggest choices I’ve made recently was when Jonathan and I decided to move to North Carolina for him to attend medical school. It wasn’t just a geographic change—it was the beginning of an entirely new chapter in our lives. At that moment, I didn’t have all the answers. I didn’t know what the future would hold, where we would end up, or what my career path would even look like. What I did know was that this was our next step, and with that choice, we could either embrace the unknown or let fear hold us back.

So, I chose to embrace it. I chose to dive into this new chapter with an open heart. We found a local church and decided to get involved, and in doing so, we began building friendships and a community that feels like family. I chose to be happy right where I am, despite the uncertainty and the many unknowns about the future. Life is happening, and I want to be present for it.

I don't have the answers to what my ultimate career will be or where we will end up in the years to come, but I have faith that as long as I am still breathing, God is still using me. There’s beauty in not knowing the full picture. In fact, I think that's the essence of faith—to trust that God’s sovereign plan is greater than anything I could ever imagine. And the choices we make, big or small, are part of that plan, even when it’s hard to see the purpose right away.

When I reflect on this, I realize that life isn’t just about the “right” or “wrong” choices, it’s about the journey that those choices lead us on. It’s about the growth, the lessons learned, and the moments of joy and sorrow that come with each decision. We are more than our choices, but our choices are what help us discover who we truly are.

So, I challenge you to think about the choices you are making today. Are they leading you toward the life you want to live? Are they aligned with your values and dreams? Remember, you don’t have to have everything figured out right now. Life doesn’t wait for you to have all the answers. It’s unfolding as you make the choices that will guide you through the journey.

And as we navigate this beautiful, chaotic life, let’s hold onto the belief that every choice is part of the grander plan, helping us become exactly who we are meant to be.

Thanks for joining me today. I love you all.

XOXO,

Aves

I guess it's a good choice to do life with this guy. :)
